PlanningHelp us navigate the long-term future of transportation funding in Pennsylvania by visiting the PennDOT Pathways online engagement platform, live now through December 17, 2020.
You may have recently seen or heard about challenges we’re facing with our design and construction programs for this year and next year. We continue to work on that critical issue. However, the Pathways engagement and feedback is separate from our immediate issue even though our current concerns further illustrate our overall situation.
PennDOT currently faces a significant highway and bridge funding gap. That gap is continually growing, which means our backlog of transportation needs is also growing and conditions are getting worse. Our online engagement platform describes where highway and bridge funding comes from, and why we’re at a yearly deficit. As you will see, one thing is clear: Our current funding model simply can’t keep up with our aging infrastructure to provide you with the trip reliability you deserve.
We’re exploring several future-focused funding solutions that will help close the gap and address the growing needs of our state. It’s important to select the best solutions for our communities and all Pennsylvanians for generations to come – which is why we need your feedback.
